Tenerife is the largest of the gloriously sunny Canary Islands, the most populated in the whole of Spain, and is a firm favourite with holiday makers from all over the world. Boasting sunshine and warm temperatures all year round, Tenerife offers the perfect paradise retreat if you’re looking to escape normal everyday life for a week or two. With so much to see and do across it’s various resorts you’ll be spoilt for choice, but Tenerife is also known for offering epic excursions and high adrenalin adventures tours in and around the island too. Here are five of the best day trips to take whilst you’re exploring this beautiful volcanic gem…
Go Splash Mad At Siam Park
Voted the best water park in the world, according to Trip Advisor, this Thai themed adventure island is spread out across 46 acres of land and boasts some of the biggest, most daring rides you’ll ever see. The park attracts over 850,000 visitors a year and is home to a lazy river, crazy rapids, a sealion island and it even has its own beach! This place is amazing for a fun filled day out and is located in the family friendly resort of Costa Adeje.
Climb The Magnificent Mount Teide
Classed as the third highest volcanic structure in the world, and the highest peak in the whole of Spain, Mount Teide is a spectacular sight to behold. Standing a whopping 12,200 ft high and dominating the Tenerife skyline, Mount Teide offers an alternative day out for those looking to release their inner explorer. There are various hikes to be taken up, down and around the mountain, but most people opt to take a cable car to the summit for the most breath-taking views over the enormous craters and rivers of lava below.
See An Abundance Of Animals At Loro Parque
Titled the best zoo in Europe, and the second best in the world by Trip Advisor, Loro Parque offers an unforgettable day out for all the family. Home to over 4000 species of animal, across its 33 acre gardens, the zoo hosts dolphin, sealion, orca and parrot shows daily as well as interactive exhibitions too. Attracting over 40 million visitors since it opened back in 1972, Loro Parque is one of the most popular excursions on the whole island and is situated in the pretty Puerto de la Cruz area.
Spot Whales And Dolphins On A Boat Trip
If you’d rather encounter animals in their natural habitat, why not take a boat trip across the Atlantic ocean and spot whales and dolphins frolicking in the open sea? There are catamarans, yachts, ferries and small boats to choose from and each will give you wonderful views of these beautiful creatures playing in their own home. Boats generally set sail from the glamorous Puerto de la Cruz but there are plenty of different routes to choose from.
Go Back In Time And Visit La Gomera
Why not visit another of the Canary islands whilst you’re already there? La Gomera, the second smallest of the Canaries, lies less than an hour away by boat from Tenerife and is often referred to as ‘the place that time forgot’. Stuck in a time warp and barely known by the flocks of tourists heading to Tenerife’s sunshine resorts, the whole island is listed as a Biosphere Reserve and boasts stunning forestry, 650km of nature trails and offers amazing views over the atlantic ocean.
There are tonnes more day trips to take from Tenerife and hundreds of other things you can see and do during your time there, but these were our top picks and offer fun filled days out for families, couples, groups and solo travellers alike. With it’s scorching sunshine and gorgeous coastal views, Tenerife makes for the perfect holiday, whatever time of year.
