I can’t believe we’re at the end of another year… 2017 has absolutely flown by and it’s certainly been one hell of a year! With 11 countries and 14 cities visited, it’s been my biggest year of travel yet and I’ve made memories that will last a lifetime. Without further ado here are my top travel highlights of 2017…
The Perfect Winter City Break To Copenhagen
I kicked off 2017 with a long weekend in Copenhagen back in February; it was my first time in Denmark and the furthest north I had ever been in Europe! My sister and I spent our days wandering around the colourful Nyhavn Harbour, eating street food on Paper Island and seeing The Little Mermaid. We had a wonderful weekend away and also managed to sneak in a cheeky day trip to Malmo, Sweden as well!
My First Group Press Trip to Menorca
I’ve always wanted to take part in a group press trip and my blogging dreams came true back in May when I was invited along to the Traverse conference as part of the Must See Menorca trip. I couldn’t quite believe my luck and was so so honoured to have been invited by the wonderful Traverse team. I had an amazing week indulging in as much Spanish culture as I could and learnt so much at the conference too. I made friends for life and I know this trip opened my blog up to more opportunities so for that I will always be grateful!
A Girly Week In The Tenerife Sun
After back to back trips to Bratislava, Vienna, Sofia and Menorca I was sooo ready for a relaxing week away with my sisters in the sun by the time June came around. Although I’d already been on several trips most of them were blog related and I had a lot of work to do so I was excited to kick back and relax for a whole seven days during my time on the Spanish island. It was our first visit to Tenerife and my sisters and I had the most amazing week sunbathing on the beach, swimming in the sea and drinking cocktails by the pool. We even climbed the magnificent Mount Teide while we were there and took in all that there was to see from above!
Another Group Press Trip To Switzerland
I was lucky enough to go on three group press trips in 2017, one to Menorca, one to Hamburg and one to Switzerland, somewhere I have wanted to visit for years! I was invited by villa rental company Travelopo and Nendaz Tourism to stay in an incredible chalet in the ski resort of Nendaz back in July, but spent a couple of days in the Swiss capital of Geneva first before venturing into the Alps. Four other bloggers and I had an amazing week in Nendaz exploring everything that the region had to offer in summer. To our surprise there was so much more to this resort than just skiing as we found out when we swam in the outdoor pool, had a relaxing spa day, hiked in the mountains every day, went cheese making in the Alps, climbed 3300m to stand on top of one of the highest points in Europe and went mountain biking too. I needed another holiday to get after my Swiss adventure but it was so much fun and I loved every single second!
Inter-Railing Around Europe
This is something I had wanted to do desperately this year and I wasn’t sure if I was going to have the time/money to plan it but thankfully my friend and I found dates that worked and got our trip booked in at the end of September. After weeks of planning we eventually decided our route would start in the Polish capital of Warsaw and end in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana, visiting Czech Republic’s Prague and Austria’s Salzburg in between. We had an incredible ten days seeing the sights, making new friends and exploring all that these beautiful cities had to offer. I had visited Prague before but all of the others were new cities for me and I think we saved the best til last as Slovenia totally stole my heart!
So there we go, my 2017 travel round up; it’s been an amazing year and I feel blessed to have had so many wonderful opportunities to travel through my blog. Over the next 12 months I’ll be travelling as much as I can and will be looking to tick even more new cities, countries and experiences off my ever expanding bucket list. Happy new year everyone- wishing you all the best for 2018!
