At the very beginning of January, Simon Jennings joined us as Chief Commercial Officer. Welcoming a new person to the team was a great way to kickstart 2018 and all the wins we’ve had since then.
On 7-9 January, we attended Affiliate Summit West in Las Vegas where we met affiliates and travel partners, as well as making more people aware of who we are and what we’re doing. It was a fantastic experience and made us feel really positive about the year ahead.
We started getting serious about our new website! Simon Jennings said: “To continue our growth, we are investing in all areas of business across all departments. We understand that the business is only as good as the people within and we are heavily focused on building key areas of the business to help and maintain the customer journey and to solve this industry problem.” It was such an exciting time for us as we could see all our hard work was starting to take shape.
April was brightened up by three new additions to the team. Katie Devereau joined us as a Customer Engagement Moderator in the customer service department.
Our team continued to grow in May when we were joined by Teodora Visockyte, our UK Partnerships Manager. She is creating brand awareness, finding new opportunities and building our relationships with the wonderful partners already within our portfolio.
Six months into 2018 and things were really starting to heat up. In fact, that was one of our biggest and busiest months ever. First of all, we celebrated our 2nd birthday in June! It was the perfect chance to reflect on where TransferTravel started and how far it has come in just two short, but very busy, years.
We also welcomed Bee Dahl as Chief Strategy Officer to help us develop and expand even more. Previously from Roomer Travel, she’s brought us a wealth of detailed industry knowledge and expertise.
Last of all, June was the month when our new website launched. It was a lot of hard work but it was definitely worth it to see our fresh branding in the (digital) flesh. The buying and selling processes are now so much smoother, simpler and clearer, as well as the payment platform and advanced search options.
Laurence Crookall, who has been with us for over two years, was promoted to Project Manager. He’s always worked beyond his role so it was a natural step for him to take control of the optimisation of new processes and make sure that business initiatives are delivered.
We also grew the TransferTravel family with two new arrivals. Natasha Clarkson is our Customer Engagement Manager, taking over from Laurence’s previous role. She is consistently working to enhance the customer experience and streamline the platform for our buyers and sellers.
Siobhan Fuller joined us as a Digital Marketing Executive straight out of university. She creates and optimises all of our content as part of the Marketing team.
In September, Simon Powell was on the Consumer Trends and Insights Panel at the Digital Travel Marketing conference in London. They discussed the next big developments in consumer attitudes towards everything from purchasing preferences to destination bucket lists.
We also had a new member join us. Nick Edge is a Customer Engagement Moderator and part of the customer service team, where he is going above and beyond to support our customers at every step of their journey with TransferTravel.
Autumn descended and the nights got shorter but things were heating up at TransferTravel. Some of our team attended InsureTech Connect 2018 in Las Vegas, where we met with other tech entrepreneurs, investors and insurance industry incumbents from across the globe. We were also the headline partner at the ABI Travel Insurance Conference where we gained more insight into the world of travel and travellers’ habits. People are at the core of what we do and we always take every chance we can to further understand what they need.
We also were awarded the TrustSeal by Sharing Economy UK for our high standards of service, security and support. It's such an honour to be able to put the TrustSeal next to our name as we work diligently to make sure that trust and transparency are at the centre of everything we do.
Award season was just starting for us as we were honoured to be announced as finalists for both the Isle of Man Newspapers Award for Innovation and Independent Thinking, and the Travolution Start-up of the Year Award.
We went to the WTM’s Travel Forward conference at the start of November. Simon Powell was one of the panellists for the ‘Meeting The Demands And Expectations Of Tomorrow’s Traveller’ panel, alongside industry leaders like Hari Nair from Expedia Group Media Solutions, Tom Valentine from Secret Escapes and Julia Lo Bue-Said CEO of The Advantage Travel Partnership.
Some of the team attended the Travolution Awards in London where, although we unfortunately didn’t win Start-up of the Year, we were still proud of everything that we have achieved since 2016. We did win the Isle of Man Newspapers Award for Innovation and Independent Thinking, which called for lots of celebration and a few well-deserved drinks!
After a successful year, we let our hair down and got festive at the Christmas party!
We’ve been featured in lots of articles this year as more and more people are getting to know who we are and how we’re revolutionising the travel industry. Here are just a few:
What an incredible twelve months! The TransferTravel.com family now has 16 members, 150,000+ users and exciting plans for the next twelve months. Onwards and upwards…
Happy New Year from all of us at TransferTravel!
